College of Science and Technology dean Joe Whitehead broke the news to colleagues yesterday that he’s shortly assuming the provost’s position at North Carolina A & T State University in Greensboro, the largest publicly funded historically black college in the state.
Way to go, Joe! A loss to Southern Miss (the point of my not-serious headline), to be sure. Four-plus years ago, I chaired the CoST dean’s search committee that recommended Dr. Whitehead for the job following Dean Rex Gandy’s departure (for a provost’s job in Texas!), so I know something of the challenges involved in managing such a complex, sprawling, and diverse array of programs, with responsibility, further, for leading the bulk of the university’s research activities.
Dr. Whitehead will not be easy to replace. Best of luck, Joe.
