Seeing your child off to college is an exciting experience, and your questions and concerns about your child's well-being will evolve as he or she enters college. That's why The University of Southern Mississippi has a dedicated faculty and staff and many useful resources to assist your child in making a smooth transition from high school to a university campus.

Our Office of the First Year Experience (FYE) is designed to make sure your student succeeds inside and outside the classroom by providing tutorial services, social gatherings, and a variety of ways to get involved on campus. Parents of Southern Miss students can volunteer to be a part of FYE's Parent Advisory Board, which assists in shaping the experience students have on Southern Miss' campus for years to come.

With 28 certified police officers patrolling the campus grounds, there is no doubt that the safety of your student is our top priority at Southern Miss. Our accredited police department prides itself on providing a safe environment for your student to succeed and enjoy the full college experience.
