Transfer Scholarships

All of the scholarships listed below are awarded to community/junior college transfer students only. Students who have previously enrolled at Southern Miss or any other four-year college or university are ineligible. To be considered for any of these scholarships, you must have submitted an application for admission and transcripts from any institutions attended after high school. Scholarship applicants must be enrolling at Southern Miss immediately following completion of transfer course work.

COMMUNITY/JUNIOR COLLEGE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Application deadline is May 1 for fall and December 1 for spring.

Community/junior college students who have demonstrated excellence in the classroom and are active members in Phi Theta Kappa honor society may qualify for $4,000 ($2,000 per year for two years). Applicants should have at least 54 hours completed or in progress with a 3.5 GPA. Interested students should submit a scholarship application with the signature of their Phi Theta Kappa chapter sponsor.

COMMUNITY/JUNIOR COLLEGE LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Application deadline is May 1.

Mississippi community/junior college student leaders, artists and scholars who are not members of Phi Theta Kappa may be considered for awards ranging up to $4,000 over two years. Interested students who have been extensively involved and have 54 hours completed or in progress should submit a scholarship application with a resumé outlining honors, activities and organizations within the community/junior college and community. Two letters of recommendation should also be submitted.

* Students must be enrolling for the fall semester at the Hattiesburg campus only.

MISSISSIPPI ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD

Application deadline is May 1 for fall and December 1 for spring.

Mississippi community/junior college transfer students who have been nominated to the state or national All-Academic Team are eligible for a one-year $1,000 award. A copy of the letter verifying All-Academic Team selection will suffice as the application for this award.

COMMUNITY/JUNIOR COLLEGE PRESIDENT'S AWARD

Application deadline is May 1.

Mississippi community/junior college students can qualify for scholarships of $1,000 if nominated by their respective presidents. The application process consists of a letter of recommendation/nomination from the community/junior college president to the Southern Miss Office of Admissions. One student per community/junior college branch may be nominated.

COMMUNITY/JUNIOR COLLEGE OUT-OF-STATE SCHOLARSHIP

Application deadline is May 1 for fall and December 1 for spring.

Out-of-state fees will be waived for any community/junior college student who has a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and a minimum of 54 semester hours.

GENERAL ACADEMIC, ENDOWMENT, AND FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

March 15th

Scholarships may be available each year to students based upon general academic achievement, leadership, major field of study, financial need, and other stipulations that may be imposed by the donor. These scholarships are listed in the University Bulletin in the "Financial Aid" section. To be considered for any or all of these scholarships, a student must have submitted a 2007 Community/Junior College Scholarship application AND have been admitted to the University by the deadline of March 15.
