- United Way
The Southern Miss community has a long-standing tradition of supporting United Way through financial giving and volunteerism. See how our university community reaches out, hand-in-hand, with this vital community agency. The United Way of Southeast Mississippi supports 22 community outreach programs, including, at Southern Miss, the Children’s Center for Communication and Development, the DuBard School for Language Disorders and the Shafer Counseling Center receive support from the United Way.
- Community Service Learning
The Southern Miss Community Service Learning program serves as the volunteer resource center and service hub for all members of the university community. More than 20,000 hours annually are served in our community and on the campus. Academic excellence, service to the community and student success are at the heart of every effort. - Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
With over 300 individuals attending programs, older adults in the community who are motivated to define their own educational experience are able to realize their personal goals in a relaxed university atmosphere at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. There are classes to take, seminars to attend, and field trips for new adventures: learn more here!
- Summer Camps on the Hattiesburg campus
Thousands of youngsters and adults enjoy dozens of broad offerings from academics to athletics. Of note is the program offered by the Frances Karnes Center for Gifted Studies where students are introduced to academic courses; from cheerleaders to theatre to band camps, Southern Miss is the place to power personal enhancement over the summer.
- Southern Miss Rose Gardens
As home to one of only two All-American Rose Gardens in the state, The University of Southern Mississippi's garden is a colorful showcase for the work of rose growers hoping to get their product on the market. Each year, Southern Miss receives from two to three new roses from the All-American Rose Society that join the approximately 750 plants that make up the garden. Located at the front of the university's campus, this nationally acclaimed landmark contributes to the civic beauty of the Hattiesburg area.
