Welcome to the Anger Research Consortium

Despite clear evidence of adverse consequences, anger receives far less attention than other negative emotions such as anxiety or depression. This is unfortunate because many people struggle with anger. Chronic anger, independent of aggressive behavior, has been linked to a number of health problems, reduced social support, impaired coping skills, substance abuse, and a variety of other emotional problems.

The Anger Research Consortium (ARC) was developed by researchers at the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to encourage collaborative research on anger and the related constructs of hostility and aggression. The mission of the ARC is to:

1. promote communication among researchers and clinicians interested in anger,
2. facilitate research collaboration on anger, hostility, and aggression,
3. provide information to practitioners about effective treatments for clinically dysfunctional anger, and
4. disseminate information about anger to the public.

If you are a researcher or clinician interested in anger, we hope that you will consider joining the ARC and possibly contributing content to this site. An ARC listserv has been established to facilitate communication and collaborative research among persons interested in the scientific study of anger. Participation on this listserv is encouraged from researchers, clinicians, and students interested in anger.
