Earn Anthropology credit and have lots of fun exploring a variety of historic sites in Mississippi.  We will be doing survey and testing at several important sites this summer.  Learn archaeological field methods hands on, and begin a discovery of the lives of Mississippians from the antebellum period to Civil Rights.  You will learn how archaeological sites are discovered, how to grid and map sites, and conduct archaeological testing.  You will be graded on your daily journal entries that document the important finds each day, as well as mastery of the skills necessary in conducting professional-level archaeological fieldwork.

You may sign up for 3 or 6 credit hours.  If you sign up for 6 credit hours, you will be expected to do field work each day, Monday through Friday all day for six weeks.  For 3 credit hours, you will be required to do field work for 3 weeks, or for half days for 6 weeks.  The first three weeks of the fieldwork will be conducted in Hattiesburg.  The last three weeks will be in Jackson.
