SUMMER FIELD SCHOOL

IN ARCHAEOLOGICAL METHODS 2007

 

 

Earn up to 9 credit hours while participating

in an excavation at the Winterville Site near Greenville, MS

 

June 4- July 13, 2005: Field School, ANT436/536 (6 credit hours)

July 16-20 Laboratory Session on the USM campus, ANT439/539 (3 credit hours)

 

The field school will provide instruction and experience in the principles of archaeological excavation, recording, and mapping in the context of an ongoing research project at one of the premier late prehistoric Mississippian sites in the South. Winterville is among the largest mound centers in the Lower Mississippi Valley, dating to A.D. 1200-1500. Students will reside in housing in or near Greenville during the field school. The laboratory session at the prehistoric archaeology lab on the USM campus will follow.
