Between a Rock and a Hard Place? Farmers and Biotechnology in the South.
Research Interests
Dr. Dana Fennell's research interests fall within the areas of health, the environment, and the construction of knowledge. Much of her research looks at the health of underprivileged groups such as racial/ethnic minorities and those with mental disorders like OCD. Part of her research examines alternative health strategies and people's use of complementary and alternative medicine—which includes taking herbs to engaging in prayer and other spiritual practices. Her dissertation and other research have examined genetic engineering, including the construction of knowledge on genetic engineering, and farmers' decisions on whether to use conventional or organic growing techniques. Dr. Fennell's course offerings include: Sociology of Health, Race & Ethnicity, Criminology,
Sociology of Film, Food & Culture, Sociological Theory, Introduction to Sociology, and Capstone. Dr. Fennell is also one of the faculty advisors to the Sociology Club.
