Purpose of Course: UNV 101 is designed to help
students make the most of their college experience at The
Text: 2007. Gardner/Jewler/Barefoot. Your College Experience: Strategies for Success. 7th edition (USM custom
text).
Course Requirements:
the assigned reading for the topic to be discussed that day.
Assignments: Several types
of assignments will be required. A list
of these assignments will be distributed in class. Students will need to turn in at least two of
these assignments each week.
Exams: There will be
a mid-course exam and a cumulative final exam.
These exams will mostly cover material from the text and class
discussions, but may also cover material students obtain outside of class as
well.
Attendance and Participation: You are
allowed one more absence than the number of times this class meets per
week. Since we meet twice a week, you
are allowed 3 absences. Additional
absences will result in your final grade being lowered by ½ letter grade (5
points) per absence. Save your absences
for family emergencies and illnesses.
Attendance and participation will help you to better understand the
material from the text and lecture.
There appears to be a strong positive correlation between
attendance and the grade students receive in the course.

Academic Dishonesty: Academic

course, dishonesty means cheating on an exam or plagiarism on the written
assignments. Penalties may range from a
grade of F (Zero) on an exam or the written assignments to a grade of F for the
course. Please refer to the USM student handbook for specific policies concerning
academic honesty.
