Current research examines the role of religion in facilitating the civic life of first-generation Filipino-Americans. Fennell, Dana (Ph.D. Sociology, University of Florida, 2005). Assistant Professor of Sociology. Primary areas of interest are health, the environment, and the sociology of knowledge. Hunt, H. David (Ph.D. Illinois, 1996). Visiting Instructor of Sociology. Interests include education, adolescence, organizations, and sport. Previous research has included an evaluation of a school reform program in Chicago and Detroit, as well as research examining the relationships between extracurricular activities and academic success and organizational goal management. Current research includes a study of how students make the transition from middle school to high school. Course offerings include Understanding Society, Social Problems, Sociology of Education, Sociology of Religion, Quantitative Methods and Statistics, and Social Inequality.(dave.hunt@usm.edu) Kinnell, Ann Marie (Ph.D. Indiana University, 1997). Assistant Professor of Sociology. Interests include conversation analysis, ethnomethodology, sociolinguistics, sociology of health, social interaction, and technology. Previous research employed a conversation analytic perspective to examine HIV prevention and test counseling. Current research examines the interaction between computer technicians, computers and computer users in an academic setting. Chasteen (Ph.D. Sociology, University of Michigan, 1998). Associate
Professor of Sociology. Primary areas of interest are
gender, race, culture, and social movements. Prior research explored
the impact of the women's movement on the social construction of sexual
assault during the 1971-96 period. Current research examines the contemporary
midwifery and home birth movements. Course offerings include Introduction
to Sociology, Social Problems, Sociology of Gender, Social Movements,
