The Sociology Club
at the University of Southern Mississippi was created in April 1998
to provide interested students with a forum for extracurricular activities
related to sociology. These extracurricular activities focus on education,
community service, professional development, and social
activities. If you would like to read more details about each
of these four areas, please read our club
mission. Below, we answer some common questions about the Sociology
Club.

Common
Questions
WHO CAN JOIN THE SOCIOLOGY CLUB?
HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
Fill out the brief membership form and pay your dues. The membership
forms are available at the meetings or in the department office, LAB
428. After you fill out the form, turn it in to Petra Lamb,
the department secretary, or to any sociology instructor. The dues
for club membership are $5 a semester.
WILL THE CLUB TAKE A LOT OF MY TIME?
Not at all. The extent of your involvement is completely up to you.
We will have several meetings a semester and will sponsor a variety
of activities, but you may choose which you wish to participate in
and which you don't. Some students will be officers who take
leadership positions and need to donate more time to the club than
others, but most students will spend only a few hours a semester in
Sociology Club activities.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN?
The Sociology Club will give you the chance to get to know other students
and sociology faculty members and will provide you with the chance
to participate in a wide variety of activities. While you are a student
it is important to become involved in organizations, and employers
will want to see in the future that you were an involved student.
The club will give you the opportunity not only to be active in a
student group but also to develop skills (like leading a meeting or
locating and inviting a guest speaker) that will be useful in other
areas of your life.
