The major in Sociology

Requirements
    Majors in sociology at USM must take a total of 33 semester hours in the department. These hours must include:
    • SOC 101 (Introduction to Sociology) 3 hours
    • SOC 460 (Quantitative Methods) 3 hours
    • SOC 462 (Methods of Social Research) 3 hours
    • SOC 482 (Sociological Theory) 3 hours
    • Sociology Electives 21 hours

    In addition, all students must:

    • complete a minor in another area (usually 18 to 21 hours)
    • fulfill requirements of the USM College of Arts and Letters core curriculum (see your advisor or bulletin for details).

    Students will need to schedule a total of 15 to 18 hours per semester to graduate in eight terms.


The minor in Sociology

Requirements

    Students minoring in sociology must take 18 semester hours in the department, including SOC 101 and additional classes of their choice.
