Amy Chasteen Miller, Ph.D.
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
Dr. Amy Chasteen Miller serves as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Arts at Letters, where she focuses primarily on the undergraduate curriculum, student engagement, and student success. She also has a strong interest in leadership development for both faculty and students. In the Dean’s office, Dr. Miller’s responsibilities include assisting with College Council, managing undergraduate student records, and developing strategies for improving students’ academic success. She also collaborates frequently with the Luckyday Citizenship Scholars program.
Dr. Miller completed an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama, after which she earned a Masters of Arts in Sociology at the University of Tennessee. She then received a Ph.D. in Sociology and a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies from the University of Michigan. Upon completion of graduate school, Dr. Miller joined the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at Southern Miss, where she continues to teach courses such as Sociological Theory, Deviant Behavior and Sociology of Health. Dr. Miller’s research focuses on gender, culture, and deviance, most recently exploring women’s experiences with pregnancy and childbirth in the United States.
