Dr. Robert J. Pauly, Jr., is Associate Dean for Gulf Coast Operations of the College of Arts and Letters and Tenured Associate Professor of International Policy and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi. He has taught in the International Development Doctoral Program since 2005.
Dr. Pauly has published five books and more than 35 book chapters, journal articles, essays and book reviews on topics including US foreign policy and international security, American, European, and Middle Eastern history and politics, nation and state building, Islam in Europe and the evolving relationships between states from the Islamic and Western worlds. His most recent book is The Ashgate Research Companion to US Foreign Policy (2010).
Dr. Pauly has advised American government analysts and military officers on issues including Islam in Europe, conflict resolution, post-conflict reconstruction and nation and state building, and taught courses on insurgency and counter-insurgency to members of the US Special Forces.
Dr. Pauly earned a B.A. in European History from University of Virginia and M.A. and doctoral degrees in International Studies from Old Dominion University.
