Community Service

Through the Student Academic Enhancement Program at Southern Miss, student-athletes give their time and effort to make a difference in the community.

Student-athletes and coaches from all 16 teams volunteer not only close to home in the Hattiesburg area, but all over the state of Mississippi. They make many community visits during the year, including stops at area hospitals, speaking and participating in reading days at local schools, and even helping build houses for Habitat for Humanity.

In March 2010, women's basketball standout Pauline Love earned one of 12 Conference USA Spirit of Service awards announced for winter.

The award goes out three times a year to recognize student-athletes for  significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sports. Student-athletes such as Love and her peers spread the “Golden Eagle” word with their actions and emphasize how Southern Miss is “South Mississippi’s Home Team."
