Overview

The Department of Athletics at The University of Southern Mississippi offers 16 sport programs at the Division I level sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). 

The university offers nine sports for women and seven for men, including baseball, men’s/women’s basketball, women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, and women’s volleyball.
 
The school has been a member of Conference USA since fall 1995 and has captured championships in baseball, football, men’s basketball, softball and volleyball. The Golden Eagles won two football UPI Small College National Championships in 1958 and 1962, and captured the men’s basketball National Invitation Tournament in 1987.

In 2009, in longtime coach Corky Palmer's final season, the Southern Miss baseball team advanced to the College World Series for the first time in school history.
 
Each year, Southern Miss provides more than 300 scholarships to deserving student-athletes as they perform not only on their respective playing fields, but in the classroom as well.
