Ray Castle, PhD, ATC



Dr. Ray Castle received his masters (1993) and doctoral degree (2000) from the University of Southern Miss, and is currently the Program Director at LSU. Ray earned his Bachelor's from LSU in 1990. Prior to returning to LSU, Ray was the Program Director at West Florida University.

Ray's expertise in computers has allowed him to do his master's thesis: "Development and Validation of a Computer-Assisted Learning Program Designed to Enhance Professional Preparation in Athletic Training" and his doctoral dissertation: "The Effectiveness of a Computer Program and Other Factors in Predicting Students' Success on the Written Simulation Section of the NATABOC, Inc. Certification Examination"

Ray is the developer and author of the early versions of EXAM MASTER marketed by Cramer Products and is currently a co-author (Castle, R., Dore', T., & Swann, E. (2001) on the updated EXAM MASTER version 3.0.

While at Southern Miss, Ray served as an assistant athletic trainer (1993-1994) and a doctoral graduate assistant (1998-2000). In his last year at Southern Miss, Ray was honored with the Outstanding Doctoral Student Award.

Ray has also volunteered his athletic training knowledge and expertise with the Olympic Games and the United States Olympic Committee. In 1996, Ray was with the group of athletic trainers that worked in Atlanta for the 96 Olympics, providing medical coverage to assigned sports venues, In 1999, Ray was at the USOC Training Center in Lake Placid, NY and worked two weeks with the men's/women's short-track speed skating and women's rugby team. In 2003, Ray was with the USOC as a Medical Staff Member (Sports Medicine Dividion) at the Pan American Games held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Currently, Ray serves on several regional and national committees related to SEATA and the NATA. In 2001, Ray lead the team (Castle, Carr, Stemmans, Swan, Vanic, Velasquez) that won the NATA Annual Educaton Multimedia Contest in the Non-Commercial Educational Software division for development of "Computerized Traditional Athletic Training Simulation Instrument". In 2002, while at West Florida, Ray won the College/University Athletic Trainer of the Year Award from the Florida Athletic Trainers Association. In 2003, Ray was awarded the Charlie Martin Ten-Year Service Award from the Louisiana Athletic Trainers' Association.
