Vrita H. Delaine
Assistant to the Vice President for Student
Affairs
Vrita
H. Delaine has served more than 18 years as a student affiars
administrator for The University of Southern Mississippi.
Prior to becoming the assistant to the vice president of Student
Affairs in February 1993, she was the associate dean of students,
a position she began in August 1987.
Before
coming to The University of Southern Mississippi, Delaine
was employed by the University of West Alabama as an admissions
counselor and as director of Residence Life.
Delaine
is a skilled motivational speaker, workshop leader, and adviser
to several organizations. She has served as an instructor
for the university since 1990, teaching Learning Skills, Leadership
Skills, and University 101.
Delaine's
educational background includes a bachelor's in social sciences
from the University of West Alabama, as well as a master's
in guidance and counseling. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D.
at The University of Southern Mississippi in educational leadership.
In
1994, Delaine was chosen by the Institution of Higher Learning
as Outstanding Educator for the state of Mississippi for her
contributions of enhancing diversity. In 2001, she was chosen
by the Miss Mississippi Pageant as Volunteer of the Year for
her 14 years of service to the pageant system and working
with young women. She was chosen as leader for the New Century
by the Hattiesburg Chamber of Commerce, as well as being nominated
for Outstanding Young Mississippian.
Delaine
has been involved in many civic activities, serving as P.T.A.
president more than three times at Hawkins Junior High School.
and Hattiesburg High School. She currently serves on the Forensics/Drama
Review Committee for Hattiesburg Public Schools. She also
served as the chair for the university's United Way Campaign.
