Christian J. Sweatt currently holds the
position of president in the NBA - USM Collegiate
Chapter. He is also in charge of maintaining the
chapter's web pages.
Christian was born on November 3, 1983
in Nürnberg, Germany and moved to the United States in
January of 1995. His permanent residence is now in
Mobile, Alabama, where he graduated from Theodore High School
in the spring of 2003.
Currently, at The University of
Southern Mississippi, Christian is a senior music education
major. His major instrument is the oboe, and is studying
under Dr. Patricia Malone. He was also a member in Dr.
Amber Shay-Nicholson's piano studio, participates in the USM Symphonic
Winds, Collegium Musicum - early music ensemble and The Pride of Mississippi Marching Band. He holds membership in The National Association for Music Education (MENC) and also
serves as the student representative/adviser to the dean of
the USM College of Arts and Letters.
In February of 2005, he was selected as
a finalist in the Undergraduate Conducting Competition at USM
and conducted the Symphonic Winds ensemble on their April 4th,
2005 concert.
He will graduate in the fall of 2008,
after which he will resume with his master's studies in music
education with an emphasis in instrumental conducting.
After completion of his master's
studies, Christian hopes to begin teaching at the secondary
level. After gaining teaching experience, Christian
hopes to further continue his education by completing his
doctoral studies in instrumental conducting.
