Dixie Darling Audition Information
Dixie Darling Clinics:January 17, 2008 - 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Payne Center, cost is $20. Pre-registration required!
January 31, 2009 - 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Payne Center, cost is $20. Pre-registration required!
DD auditions:
March 28, 2009 - Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Payne Center, no fee. Register at the door. Auditions begin at 9:30 a.m.
April 25, 2009 - Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Payne Center, no fee. Register at the door. Auditions begin at 9:30 a.m.

Dixie Darling auditions consist of the following:
Learn AND perform: 45 second - one minute dance routine
Dixie Darling Strut
Kick combination
Exhibit splits/leaps
Approximate Costs:
Uniform deposit $50
Practice wear: T-shirts ($10 each), split sole dance shoes ($60), black shorts/pants
Performance wear:
long white gloves ($15), white boots ($55), tights ($12)
Scholarships are available with the assistance of the Dixie Darling Alumnae Association. Each Dixie Darling receives a partial scholarship with larger scholarships given based on academic performance, attendance, attitude, and knowledge of Dixie Darling history.
All Dixie Darlings must enroll for, and successfully complete, twelve (12) semester credit hours of classes. They must maintain a 2.0 grade point average (GPA), except for seniors who must maintain a GPA of 2.5. Failure to maintain academic eligibility can result in performance suspension or dismissal from the squad.
The Dixie Darlings are one of the great traditions at Southern Miss. As an important component of The Pride of Mississippi Marching Band, the Dixie Darlings have developed a national reputation for excellence in performance during halftime shows at Southern Miss football games.
Questions Most Frequently Asked About Auditions:
Q. What will I be required to do at the audition?
A. You will be shown the Dixie Darling entrance and a segment of a routine. You will be given some time to practice and then will have the opportunity to perform in a small group of three or four.
Q. Will I need to prepare a routine?
A. No. You will be shown everything you need for the audition.
Q. What should I wear to the audition?
A. Audition attire should be dance wear that shows the torso and legs, jazz shoes or dance sneakers.
Q. How will I be judged?
A. Seven points are taken into consideration by the judges:
1. Technical Ability
2. Rhythm
3. Performance Skills
4. Ability to pick up a routine quickly
5. Physical Fitness/Appearance
6. Kicks
7. Overall appearance
Q. Can I audition more than once?
A. Yes! If the judges feel you need to work on a given point such as high kicks or weight, they will recommend that you try out again at a later audition.
