This afternoon I was able to perform one of my favorite tasks as dean: handing out diplomas and shaking the hands of new Southern Miss Arts and Letters graduates. As a faculty member, I was also extremely pleased to hood one of my doctoral students who recently completed his dissertation. It is an honor to work with such bright and talented students at all levels, and as well to work among such a dedicated and effective faculty and staff.
The cycle of academic life is never-ending. Today we send our graduates out, tomorrow we grade papers and turn in final grades for many who are just beginning their journey. In January we will welcome new and returning students to spring semester. And so it goes....
