Freeing the Power of the Individual

Writing from Sunny California

I'm travelling again. This time, I'm with development officer John Sherk on a trip to reconnect with nearly a dozen college alumni living on the West Coast.  Last night, we ate dinner on the bay in La Jolla with a former dance major and student government officer who today makes her living by producing major concerts for a variety of organizations and corporations.  At the moment, she's working with Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and the Goo Goo Dolls (what a diverse lineup!).

Throughout our time together, she kept stressing the need for our current students to take advantage of internships, summer jobs, and other opportunities to connect to their dreams. I couldn't agree more. That's why the college is working to create better systems for connecting our students with potential internships and service learning opportunities that--when combined with their solid liberal arts training in research, analysis and communications--will help them prepare for the career marketplace of the future.

Expanding our network of supportive alumni is an important step in the process. Being able to  do the job in a place like San Diego is a real bonus!
