I'm always pleased to show off the incredible things going on in our classrooms. In Spring 2008, for example, the Honors Geography 101 section undertook a video project to document the opportunities and challenges facing Moss Point, Mississippi. Working under Professor Mark Miller (a student favorite in the Honors College), the students interviewed local residents and produced videos of their work.
Dr. Miller premiered the videos for us in the College earlier in the year, then later in the summer he posted them on his website. Check them out. I'm betting you'll be pleased, as I am, at the student's work.
Dr. Miller's class is a perfect example of our "active learning" classes, in which students take part in out-of-class work (field trips, video projects, etc.) that drive home the points they're learning in the classroom. About half of our classes in the Honors College incorporate active learning.
