Black and Gold Day

Black and Gold Day is a great way for the Honors College to connect with potential students. This year's Black and Gold Day Saturday was no exception. It was all hands on deck as the Honors College staff turned out in force to welcome potential students who were learning about the wide range of quality Southern Miss programs. All the colleges mounted displays at the Thad Cochran Center to show off our programs to visiting students in the hours before the game with East Carolina.

As always, our best students turned out in force to help recruit. (That's HoCo's own Candice White and Britny West with the welcome signs in the top picture.) They helped us welcome top prospects like Alexandra Jarriel of Oak Grove High School, who visited along with her folks, Monika and Jim Hogan (middle picture). We also welcomed Savannah Michaelsen of Jackson, who attends Madison Central. She mugged for the cameras along with Honors Ambassador Lorrin Debenport and my colleague Stacey Ready. (bottom picture...that's Lorrin on the left, Stacey in the middle, and Savannah on the right)

We'd love to welcome Alexandra (who's looking to major in polymer science) and Savannah (who's learning toward marine biology) to our Honors College ranks, and we're looking forward to leading personal tours of the college to them and to other interested students we got to meet Saturday. Black and Gold Day is a great way to give us all a chance to get acquainted.

(BTW, congrats to our Golden Eagles for playing a great game against the East Carolina Pirates.)
