A dozen faculty from the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory came to campus Tuesday to visit with Honors College students about summer research possibilities at the lab. For decades GCRL has operated the Summer Field Program for undergraduates, offering students a chance to earn up to 12 hours in science courses while doing cutting-edge research in marine biology and other specialized fields. Our student Will Thompson (pictured with his research mentor Dr. Jeff Lotz) spoke to students about his research in the program in Summer 2008. We're hoping to attract a huge influx of Honors students into the summer program to conduct research for their honors theses. More info on the program is found on the GCRL web page. A flyer about the summer program can be downloaded by clicking here. Dr. Clardy's terrific Powerpoint presentation on the program is hereMany thanks to Dr. Sam Clardy of GCRL (shown in the bottom picture presenting to the group) and our own Paula Mathis for putting the visit together. Two weeks ago Paula & I visited the GCRL for a grand tour of the facilities. It's an impressive place in a beautiful setting; the research opportunities for our students are enormous.
