One of the most prestigious book awards in the world is the Newbery Medal for children's literature. Our own Ellen Ruffin, curator for the deGrummond Children's Literary Collection here at Southern Miss, will have a hand in deciding on the winner. She has been elected by her peers to serve on the selection committee in 2009. This is an important honor for her and reflects positively on the work she and her colleagues are doing.
