Joe and I attended the governor's inauguration this morning. One important point in his address was that when he took the oath of office four years ago, no one knew what lay ahead. Specifically, no one then had an inkling that Hurricane Katrina would hit us and change everything. He noted that we never know what the future holds, but he underscored that the people of Mississippi are more ready than ever to meet tomorrow head on.
It was a nice event. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fight the crowd to get one of the souvenir magnolia trees. It would have made a lovely addition to the campus.
