I was distraught when I learned some trees around the Ogletree House were scheduled to come down as renovations begin. By Christmas Eve, it was clear we had no other choice. An arborist met me on campus that day and examined every tree. He pointed out the weakness in each of them and confirmed that they would not survive much longer and could become a danger to the structure (and people.) With a heavy heart, I approved the removal of seven trees.
Some kind members of the university staff took pity on my distress and have made heroic efforts to save the giant camellias near the building. If you drive past the construction site, you'll see these beautiful trees being potted up and moved to safety until the renovations are complete.
