I spent some time in Jackson with my fellow presidents yesterday as we attended a House Appropriations Committee meeting. The committee was kind enough to listen to us regarding the IHL budget for the coming year. As you may already know, the governor has recommended level funding for the universities. I pointed out to the group that level funding really isn't level. When you consider the rise in insurance costs and utilities, we will have less than last year without additional funds to continue our work. New funds (if we get them) will be used to provide additional faculty for critical program needs. We will continue to make our case to all who will hear it.
On tap for today:
Interview third candidate for provost
Lunch with Mayor Dupree
First meeting of the new University Strategic Planning Committee
Dinner with Colonial Dames of the 17th Century.
