Lunch today was a feast for the body and the spirit. I enjoyed being part of the Soul Food Luncheon, sponsored by the African American History Month Committee. I filled up on collard greens, corn bread, fried fish and black-eyed peas, but made sure to leave room for peach cobbler. A nap would be nice now, but duty calls.
Other Black History Month events include a university sponsored presentation next Tuesday, February 19, featuring BET's 'Cousin Jeff' speaking on the voice of the hip-hop generation. For more information, log on at www.usm.edu/blackhistorymonth.
