I've been traveling a good bit in June and depart today on the sixth and final trip of the month. My destination is Asheville, North Carolina, where I will attend the summer meeting of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. As a newly elected commissioner, I look forward to hearing reports on progress and challenges of our sister universities throughout the south.
Last week's visit to Washington, D.C. was encouraging. Much of what we have been able to accomplish at Southern Miss over the past few years has been as a result of the good support we have received at the federal level. I was able to meet with the members of our congressional delegation and share news of our accomplishments and our plans for the future.
