I passed a couple of students yesterday who were having a bit of a quarrel. It went something like this:
First student: "No! I'm not going!"
Second student (tugging on her arm): "Yes, you are."
First student (sounding more annoyed): "Not today!"
Second student (sounding exasperated): "You need to go to class!"
In hindsight, I wish I had stopped to talk with them. I would have told the first student that, yes, she does indeed need to go to class if she expects to be successful here. I would also have told her she is lucky to have a friend who cares enough about her to urge her to do the right thing.
