POLYMER SCIENCE DAY- Prentiss High School student Charles Otis takes part in an experiment recently at the University of Southern Mississippi's annual Polymer Science Day, on the Hattiesburg, Miss., campus. Otis dips his hand into water through aluminum stearate, as fellow student Calandra Walker looks on. A common ingredient in coatings, concrete, water sealants and deodorant, the material keeps Otis' gloved hand from getting wet. Students from a number of schools participated in experiments at the university's Shelby Freland Thames Polymer Science Research Center. (Southern Miss Public Relations photo by Steve Rouse)
