About Us

The University of Southern Mississippi's Broadcasting and Media Services provides a wide range of creative media design and production support for all university departments and certain community agencies. The facilities of Broadcasting and Media Production Services include the university's full-time FM public radio service, WUSM-FM, and a sophisticated media production capability. The unit is equipped with both radio and television studio facilities as well as with remote/field production capabilities in audio and video. The unit also operates a KU band satellite uplink truck with on-location production facilities.

[Students David Garraway and Austin Smith set up camera 4] With expertise in both technical and artistic realms, the professional staff is able to provide full production assistance in all phases of media development and programming, from conceptualization, design, and writing to recording, editing, and distribution.

Production services include such state-of-the-art capabilities as digital audio recording and editing, multitrack audio recording, remote video recording, BETACAM-SP format video recording, A-B roll/CMX video editing, high quality electronic 3-D graphics, and 3-D video animation.The division has extensive experience in the production of video and audio materials for such purposes as instruction, recruitment, training, orientation, staff development public information, and economic development. The professional staff is also able to offer design consultation to organizations wishing to develop internal production capabilities.
