Your Video

Your needs are going to determine what your end product will be.

[Dennis and Rodney consider the next shot]
Dennis and Rodney consider a shot.
Planning is very important for a good end product.

You have an upcoming event and you would like to have it made into a video for future use. Here are some questions you may want to ask yourself:

Who am I making this video for?
A video that is made for one target audience might not work as well with another. A video made for an audience consisting of a bunch of seventh graders will be different from a video made for an audience of business executives.

What is going on at this event?
This will affect how the event is shot.
For example, if you have a guest speaker in one of your classes and want to have that lecture available for your other classes, we might recommend one camera videotaping from the back of the classroom.
However, if you have multiple speakers in a panel type format, we might recommend having more than one camera at the event to capture different speakers. Having multiple cameras at the event prevents loss of action. This footage will have to be edited either on site or after the shoot.
Now if you have a panel of speakers in a classroom at another college and you want to show it live in your classroom (and possibly other classrooms across the nation), that shoot will require multiple cameras and a satellite uplink.

What do I want my audience to get from this video?
This is the message your audience takes with them after watching the video. For example, a video about a charity can be different from a video asking for funds to help the chairity. In one, the audience would leave with, "We are Charity X and we do Y" and in the other they would leave with, "We need your contributions and help to do Y."

These and other questions should be answered before shooting starts to avoid unuseable or undesirable video.

Items of Interest
  • Many events need to have microphones in place to pick up what the speaker is saying.
  • Some events need to be lit for proper recording.
  • Some events may need to be re-created in a studio.
  • Sometimes, external pictures or demonstrations need to be added in the editing process.
  • Video production can be confusing if you are not used to it. Preplanning can make the production (and postproduction) less problematic and save time on site.

Please call us at (601)266-5615 or come in and see us for more information. We can help you with the preplanning of your event and give you more options.
