Fossile and mural of Basilosaurus cetoides

The Basilosaurus cetoides was a primitive marine mammal which lived throughout Mississippi almost 45 million years ago. It is the state fossil of Mississipi, and these remains were excavated in Jasper County. The mural above the remains is an imagined depiction representative of size based on the collected remains.
