About the MPA
The Southern Miss School of Accountancy is dedicated to student learning and preparing students for successful careers in accounting. Southern Miss Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) graduates are prepared for a wide variety of employment opportunities and meet the course and credit requirements to sit for the nationally administered Certified Public Accountant exam. Our graduates are recruited by local, regional, national and international accounting firms, private industry and governmental agencies. Recent successes in placing graduating MPA students provide evidence of the quality of the MPA program and market demand for its graduates.
The School of Accountancy’s Mission Statement includes the following declaration regarding the Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) program at The University of Southern Mississippi:
“As the knowledge required to practice accounting is expanding rapidly, qualified students are encouraged to consider pursuing a fifth year of study leading to a Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA). The BSBA accounting curriculum is integrated with the MPA program. MPA graduates are especially prepared for careers in public accounting, and meet the course and credit hour requirements to sit for the nationally administered Certified Public Accountant examination.”
The School of Accountancy’s faculty strive to prepare students for successful careers, to expand and disseminate knowledge through their published research, and to serve the academic and accounting communities. Three of the graduate accounting faculty who teach in the MPA program have recently received prestigious teaching awards in recognition of their commitment to teaching and enabling student success.
The School of Accountancy offers scholarships for students in the MPA program. Application deadlines for these scholarships vary. Financial aid is available to students who qualify. For more information, visit the Graduate School. This applies to both Hattiesburg and Gulf Park Students.
