About the MPA
The School of Accountancy’s Mission Statement includes the following declaration regarding the Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) program at The University of Southern Mississippi:
“As the knowledge required to practice accounting is expanding rapidly, qualified students are encouraged to consider pursuing a fifth year of study leading to a Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA). The BSBA accounting curriculum is integrated with the MPA program. MPA graduates are especially prepared for careers in public accounting, and meet the course and credit hour requirements to sit for the nationally administered Certified Public Accountant examination.”
The School of Accountancy’s 10 tenure track faculty strive to prepare students for successful careers, to expand and disseminate knowledge through their published research, and to serve the academic and accounting communities. Three of the graduate accounting faculty who teach in the MPA program have recently received prestigious teaching awards in recognition of their commitment to teaching and enabling student success.
The School of Accountancy offers scholarships for students in the MPA program. Application deadlines for these scholarships vary. Financial aid is available to students who qualify. For more information, visit Admissions for Hattiesburg students or Admissions for Coast students.
Beta Alpha Psi
Southern Miss also has an active chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the premier accounting honorary for college students. Acceptance into the MPA program makes a student automatically eligible to pledge and become a member.
Students interested in a graduate assistantship are encouraged to submit an application. Graduate assistantships are available to provide research support for faculty. Positions are limited, and awards are competitive. Apply to the College of Business Graduate Programs office.
