Valerie C. Simmons, CPA

Instructor

Mrs. Valerie Simmons has been a member of the USM College of Business faculty since 2006. Before entering academia, Simmons worked as a Certified Public Accountant with Faust, Faust and Hutchison, PA, and as the controller for Simmons Housing, Inc.

Mrs. Simmons teaches Introduction to Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting. In addition to her role as instructor, Mrs. Simmons serves as faculty advisor for the USM accounting honor society, Beta Alpha Psi, and as the School of Accountancy internship coordinator. While at Southern Miss, she has developed two online courses, Managerial Accounting and Fundamentals of Accounting. She has also served on the university-wide Retention Steering Committee and the Academic Technology Committee, the College of Business Alternative Learning Committee, and worked extensively with other departments on campus in the implementation of the iClicker technology. Ms. Simmons was awarded the Business Advisory Council Teaching Award for the 2010 – 2011 academic year and the Business Advisory Council Service Award for the 2013 - 2014 academic year.

Mrs. Simmons received her Master of Public Accountancy and BSBA in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with honors. As a student in the Masters Program, she was awarded the Accounting Faculty Award. She is a Certified Public Accountant and also holds a property and casualty insurance license. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants.
