Planned tour to market centers with emphasis on clothing, textiles, and fashion. *FM 331 -- Evaluating Fashion and Apparel. 3 hrs. Prerequisites: FM 121 and 330. A study designed to evaluate fashion and apparel merchandise in relation to cost, variety, quality, performance, and consumer demand. FM 332 -- Fashion Behavior: Appearance and Communication. 3 hrs. Impression management and communication skills; dress, appearance, and other non-verbal communication in professional settings. *FM 335 -- Costume History. 3 hrs. Prerequisites: HIS 101 and 102. Cultural and economic factors concurrent to the adoption and abandonment of dress from ancient times to the present. *FM 337 -- Fashion Promotion and Analysis. 3 hrs. Prerequisite: FM 121 and 330. Exploration of motivations and influences of consumer purchase and use of apparel, accessories, and home furnishings. FM 421 -- International Fashion Study. 2-9 hrs. Planned study of international fashion centers with emphasis on clothing, textiles, and merchandising. May be repeated up to 9 hrs. Varied FM 434 -- History of Decorative Textiles. 3 hrs. Prerequisites: FM 330 or approval of instructor. Historical and methodological study of applied and structural textile design. Varied *FM 435 -- Merchandise Mathematics. 3 hrs. Prerequisite: FM 121 and MKT 300. Basic principles and applications of merchandising mathematics as related to the fashion industry. *FM 436 -- Fashion Merchandising. 3 hrs. Prerequisites: FM 435 and MKT 300. A study of the assignments, responsibilities, and practices of fashion buying and merchandising. *FM 437 -- Product Development. 3 hrs. Prerequisite: FM 330 and 331. Understanding the development of apparel production and planning, including apparel industry terminology, technology, production methods, and engineering quality. *FM 438 -- Entrepreneurship in Apparel and Interiors. Prerequisite 435. Analyzing business opportunities and the planning processes in apparel and home furnishings industries. *FM 439 -- Retail Merchandising Internship. 4 hrs. Prerequisites: FM 337, 435, and 436, BTE 480, MKT 300, ENG 333, and senior standing. Understanding the operation and management of retail activities through a supervised work program in a cooperating apparel retail store. FM 478 -- Seminar in Fashion Merchandising. 3hrs. Prerequisite: Junior Standing. Designed to examine pertinent issues and current trends in fashion merchandising. FM 492 -- Special Problems. 1-6 hrs. A directed individual study planned and approved by the professor of record and the chair of the department.
