Academic and Professional Interests
Dr. Monchuk's research on regional and rural development has been published journals such as the Review of Agricultural Economics, Review of Regional Studies and the Journal of Regional Analysis and Policy. He has also published papers on non-regional topics such as the value of nicotine
appearing in Nicotine and Tobacco Research. Current research includes analysis of agricultural production efficiency in China and economic resiliency in coastal regions following a hurricane.

Professional Honors and Achievements
Dr. Monchuk is the recipient of the M. Jarvin Emerson Graduate Student awarded by the Mid-Continent Regional Science Association in 2003 and received honorable mention for his Master's thesis from the Canadian Agricultural Economics Association in 2000. Dr. Monchuk is also an avid
backpacker and has hiked in a number of different mountain ranges including the Rockies, Andes, and the Carpathians.
