About the College of Business
The
dynamics of the global business environment demand
well-prepared individuals to effectively manage the
constantly evolving workplace. Increasingly, managers
must couple creative problem-solving skills with effective
communication and presentation techniques to lead
high performance work groups in hyper-competitive
markets. The College of Business seeks to prepare
students for careers in business using a balanced
and synergistic approach of instruction, scholarly
activity, and professional service
These critical success factors are integral parts
of the business curriculum at The University of Southern
Mississippi. Students who major in business are well
prepared for challenging positions in the competitive
global marketplace, ranging from large corporations
to individually owned small businesses.
Through university and business partnerships, our
curriculum maintains its currency and relevancy to
innovations in the world of business. The Southern
Miss College of Business provides a solid foundation
on which to launch an exciting career in business
and related fields anywhere in the world. With small
classes taught by full-time business professors in
a friendly atmosphere, the College of Business is
poised to contribute to students' personal and professional
development.
The College of Business is one of five degree-granting
colleges at The University of Southern Mississippi.
More than 75 faculty members teach courses to approximately
2,000 graduate and undergraduate students in 11 different
majors in Hattiesburg and on the University’s
campus on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The business programs are accredited by AACSB International
- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of
Business. The School of Accountancy and Information Systems'
undergraduate and graduate programs have also received
separate AACSB accreditation.
On the graduate level, the college offers the Master of Business Administration and Master of Professional
Accountancy programs.
Established as the Division of Commerce in 1947 to
serve the needs of returning veterans, the College
continues to evolve in an effort to equip students
for success in the ever-changing global business community.
The College of Business enjoys a vibrant relationship with the regional
business community as many notable business leaders
serve on the College’s Business Advisory Council.
The University of Southern Mississippi is a nationally
accredited, public university located in Hattiesburg,
Miss. With two campuses and five teaching and
research sites across south Mississippi, Southern
Miss is the state’s second largest university
with more than 15,000 students. It is a Carnegie doctoral/research
- extensive university and is a Southern Regional
Education Board Class 1 university.
