College of Business Advisement and Registration Procedures

Class Scheduling
Each fall and spring, continuing business students are able to register early for their classes for the following semester. In October and again in March, notices are posted and announcements are made about the advisement and registration schedule. In addition, students are notified about this period via their USM e-mail address. It is imperative that students activate their USM e-mail account. To do so, contact iTech at 601-266-HELP.

Advisement
Each advisement and registration period has a scheduled sign-up period. This period for the College of Business does not coincide with the general University advisement period. Due to the centralized advising service, the advisement period typically begins the third week following the beginning of a semester and concludes when the University registration period ends. During the advisement period, you can schedule an advisement appointment with an adviser who will assist you in planning classes for the upcoming semester(s). Hattiesburg students must come to JGH 110 to begin the advisement/registration process.

Hattiesburg students must also pick up their registration materials in JGH 110 in order to register online without scheduling an appointment with an adviser. However, if a student is on academic probation, probation continued, or suspension, advisement is mandatory and a student will not be able to pre-register for classes until they have been cleared by their adviser.

Registration
USM’s online registration system, SOAR, is the only access continuing students have to register early. You may access this site at www.usm.edu/soar . To begin the registration procedure, you must enter your student ID number and a password.

During each registration period, you will be assigned a registration window by the Registrar’s Office. You will not be able to register prior to your window opening and your registration window is listed on your SOAR web page.

Registration Conflicts
When registering for courses, SOAR may indicate that you are unable to register for a certain course. Please pay close attention to the problem stated. The location for resolving registration problems are as follows:
