Catalyst: A Multidisciplinary Review of Undergraduate Scholarship

To submit to Catalyst, your research must have been conducted during a full-time or part-time undergraduate study at The University of Southern Mississippi. Only current undergraduate students are allowed to submit papers for consideration.
Your submission must be completed and mailed according to the submission guidelines.

Submission Guidelines

Original Research—ranging from the traditional (but exceptionally researched) term paper to creative, original projects in the arts and sciences.
Art Work for Cover Consideration—photographs of Art Work may be submitted for this issue’s cover. If you are submitting artwork, you will also need to submit a 5-7 page commentary on the piece to be published in the issue on whose cover it appears.

The application cover sheet can be found at HERE at www.usm.edu/catalyst. It may also be found in the Honors College (Honors House).

Each submission must be approved for publication by a professor familiar with your work. He or she must sign the bottom of the application cover sheet. Submissions will not be accepted without signature.

The application cover sheet must be completed and a hard copy mailed to Catalyst Post Office Box. Also, send 1 electronic copy (Microsoft Word format) to the editor of your field (Humanities or Sciences).
Do NOT put any identifying marks (name/student ID) on the electronic copy; only the title should be on the copy. This is essential in order for the review board to conduct a blind reading of submissions.
Articles submitted must follow an established style manual (MLA, APA, etc.). The style used must be indicated on the application sheet.
Submissions for original research must fall between 10-20 pages, double spaced, size 12 font, 1” margins. This page limit does not include reference/sources. Full-length Honors Theses are NOT accepted; however, you may submit a portion of your thesis so long as it complies with the above page restrictions. Due to the limits of journal publication, longer articles may need to be edited after selection.
Cover Art Submissions should include 5-7 pages of commentary on the work, as well as photographs or digital copies of the work itself.
Supplementary materials are encouraged. Make sure that all photographs are JPEG format and that charts, graphs, etc are compatible with Microsoft Word.
