In focusing on rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina, the Mississippi Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE) provides resources to assist with the recovery/rebuilding efforts. The CCCE is offering hurricane rebuilding mini-grants and fellowships to support service projects/activities among colleges/universities and student groups.
Hurricane Rebuilding Mini-grants
What funding is available?
Rebuilding mini-grants will be provided to colleges and universities at $250-$1000 for the 2006-2007 academic year. Priority will be given to applicants from vocational-technical departments at community and junior colleges utilizing student expertise in masonry, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing work. Special consideration will also be given to students from 4-year institutions with expertise in architecture, engineering, and public planning.
What can the Rebuilding Mini-grants be used for?
Design or implement disaster preparedness activities for service project.
Purchase of supplies and materials (i.e. lumber, bricks, electrical or plumbing supplies, etc.) needed to conduct service projects.
Travel expense to hurricane affected sites.
Hurricane Rebuilding Fellowships
What funding is available?
Fellowships are awarded to college groups, community/faith-based groups, and
K-12 groups to support their service efforts in hurricane-impacted areas. Fellowships will be awarded at $250-$1,000 for the 2006-2007 academic year.
What are the Rebuilding Fellowships used for?
Materials and supplies needed to conduct service project.
Expenses/transportation to service project as it relates to hurricane rebuilding.
