Jessica White
Jessica White is a senior business technology education major from Columbia, Mississippi. She moved to Columbia from San Antonio, Texas, several years ago with her family. Jessica’s elementary and middle school experiences led her to desire to be a teacher. Her elementary and middle school teachers were so caring and willing to help every student that Jessica decided she would like to do the same for students someday. The only question she could not answer was which subject area she would prefer to teach. She found that answer her eleventh and twelfth grade years when she enrolled in Ms. Stephanie Buhrer’s Business and Computer Technology (BCT) I & II classes at Carl Loftin Career & Technology Center in Columbia, Mississippi. During her twelfth grade year, she decided she would like to be a computer teacher.
After graduating high school with special honors in 2004, Jessica decided to attend The University of Southern Mississippi [USM] in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. From the beginning, her mind was set on becoming a business technology educator because of the experience she had in BCT I & II. She wanted to impart technology and business-related knowledge to students as Ms. Buhrer had done for her. She was determined to study and excel not only in her required courses, but also in her major coursework. During her past four years at USM, she has worked hard to achieve her goal. During the spring 2008 semester, Jessica saw that goal come to a close end while completing her student teaching at Carl Loftin Career & Technology Center and Columbia High School in Columbia. On May 9, 2008, Jessica will see her goal come to fruition when she receives her Bachelor of Science in Business Technology Education degree from USM.
During Jessica’s enrollment at USM, she has been involved in numerous activities and received many awards. She is a member of Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, Golden Key International Honour Society, Kappa Delta Pi, Mississippi Business Education Association, National Business Education Association, Phi Beta Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Pi Omega Pi. She is the recipient of the Lester Haddox Scholarship and Willie Evelyn Ewell Business Education Scholarship. In addition, she has received the Outstanding Business Technology Education Practicum Student and Outstanding Business Technology Education Student Awards.
After graduation, Jessica plans to move to North Carolina where she will pursue a master’s degree in business education from North Carolina State University or East Carolina University.
