Research

One of my primary research interests focuses on protective factors against adolescent deviant behavior. In particular, I am interested in the importance of family process and religiosity as deterrents to deviance. In addition, I have been involved in some cross-national comparative research. I am also examining the effects of gendered parenting on young people’s gendered development, particularly the importance of the fathering role for daughters’ development. Some other research in which I am involved includes a study of the importance of environment (i.e., lighting, temperature, color, etc.) on young people’s learning, the use of videoconferencing technology to enhance classroom teaching and learning, and developmental issues associated with home-schooling.

Service:

I serve as an ad hoc reviewer for journals such as the European Journal of Psychology of Education, Family Science Review, Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology, Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, Journal of Early Adolescence, Journal of Marriage and the Family.

Teaching:

FAM 450 Sexuality and the Family
FAM 452 Parenthood
FAM 453 Families in Later Life
FAM 633 Adolescents in the Family System
