July, 2006- The white wall surrounding the Children's Center playground next to the SRS Building is undergoing a major face lift.
Barbara Ann Carver-Hunt, an adjunct faculty member in U S M 's art department, is coordinating efforts to transform the wall's white facade into a collage of lovable animals and creatures. Assisting with the project are former U S M students Jessica Dolata, a general arts major, and Angie Backes, a 3D design major.

Barbara explained that the entire mural was worked out on a small scale prior to transferring images to the wall. She allowed us to see the original design which was literally drawn on a long roll of paper. For example, the initial rendering of the friendly sea creatures is shown in the second photo.

Several semesters will be required to complete the entire project. Feel free to swing around by the C C C D playground anytime to check on the progress. You'll eventually see not only dolphins and whales, but lions, tigers, bears, elephants, peacocks ....
