The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and special Education's Awards committee is composed of the following individuals: Shirley Bowles, Holly Hulbert, Frances Karnes, Beth Richmond, David Walker, and Sue Whitcomb.

There will be approximately 30 scholarships awarded to students majoring in elementary or special education for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The amounts of these scholarships range from $250 to full payment of tuition. Requirements vary widely across scholarships. For example, some scholarships require a minimum GPA while others do not. Other scholarships may have such requirements as evidence of financial need and/or demonstration of leadership.

Final confirmation of all scholarship information should be available by the end of March; a list will then be posted in the Speech, Reading, and Special Education (SRS) building. The deadline for submitting applications is April 1; application forms will be available in SRS 143.

For further information, please contact Dr. Hani Morgan or Dr. Linda McDowell.

Additional scholarship information may be obtained by contacting
the Office of Financial Aid.

The Department has developed numerous awards to provide students within the program the opportunity to be recognized for their efforts and scholarly work during both course and clinical opportunities, Should you like to nominate a peer for specific recognition please contact Dr, Shirley Bowles (Shirley.Bowles@usm.edu).
