About the Department
Students majoring in the Department of Speech Communication learn how communication fosters success in personal relationships, business settings, and society. The curriculum includes skills-oriented courses in interviewing, debate, and public speaking, as well as others focused on gender, nonverbal communication, persuasion, humor, and deception. Graduates obtain jobs as sales representatives, managers, and recruiters; work in corporate communication; and, pursue advanced degrees. The major provides a strong foundation for law school, graduate study in communication, and seminary. A graduate program offering the master’s and doctoral degrees enhances the academic environment for all students.
