Alumni Profile
Keri Horn (1998)
In her own words, Keri Horn tells us of her latest achievement since graduating from Southern Miss . . .
"I have been working on the PBS children's series Between the Lions since 2004. I have had the great fortune and fun of wrangling the puppets (which means getting them ready for their close-ups), assisting the puppeteers, and actually doing some puppeteering of my own for this awesome show!
For the 8th season (2008/2009), I was given two very high honors. One was my very own character: a Cajun cocker spaniel puppet named Kayree, for which I did the voice and the puppeteering. And, the other honor was that I was asked to write for the series.
Well, the Daytime Emmy Award nominations were announced this morning (May 17, 2009). Between the Lions garnered two nominations!! One is for Outstanding Preschool Series. Also in the running for this category are Johnny and the Sprites (Disney), Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies (PBS), Sesame Street (PBS), and The Wonder Pets (Nickelodeon).
The other nomination is one in which I am personally named!! It's for Outstanding Writing in a Children's Series! Our competition in this category includes Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman (PBS/WGBH) and Sesame Street (PBS).
The awards will be televised on the CW network (Not my portion, though. I'll be in those "special awards that were handed out earlier in the evening") on August 30, 2009, from the 'Historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.'
I love hearing everyone else's good news in the Diva Memos [theatre alumni listserv]. And now I'm proud to add some good news of my own. And truly, it is an honor just to be nominated!!"
